About Mattie Miracle...
Mattie Miracle Cancer Foundation is dedicated to increasing childhood cancer awareness, education, advocacy, research and psychosocial support services to children, their families, and medical personnel. Children and their families will be supported throughout the cancer treatment journey, to ensure access to quality psychosocial and mental health care, and to enable children to cope with cancer so they can lead happy and productive lives.
About APOS...
American Psychosocial Oncology Society (APOS) is a multidisciplinary organization dedicated to researching and treating the psychosocial aspects of cancer. It brings together professionals from all disciplines working in the psychological, behavioral and social aspects of cancer, including nurses, social workers, psychologists, counselors, clergy and psychiatrists.
Letters of Intent (LOIs) Call is now Open - deadline is July 1, 2024
Mattie Miracle Cancer Foundation Psychosocial Standards of Care APOS Grant - Call for LOIs
One $10,000 grant pertaining to the Implementation of the Pediatric Psychosocial Standards of Care will be provided.
The application should focus on:
Research that advances the implementation of any of the 15 Standards and can document improved care provided to children with cancer and their family members.
OR
The feasibility, application and utilization of the Matrix and Guidelines
Specifically, we are looking for evidence of how the Standards can be introduced into practice and/or how the Matrix and Guidelines can be applied to monitor/track changes in psychosocial practice. This may include identifying gaps in services and building new tools/resources/staffing.
For either study design, stakeholder engagement is encouraged, as appropriate for the proposed project. This can include the perspectives of patients, parents/caregivers, administrators, and/or payors. Payments for stakeholder involvement should be included in the award budget.

Eligibility:
1. Current APOS membership and an early investigator (within 10 years of terminal degree).
2. A research mentor must be clearly identified, and the application must document his/her involvement in the study design and execution, as well as training and mentorship.
Expectations:
1. Funded grant results are expected to be presented at the APOS annual meeting.
2. Researchers are expected to publish the results of their funded grant research.
3. Grant recipients are expected to acknowledge the Mattie Miracle Cancer Foundation (funding agency) in presentations and in publications.
Please Upload Letter of Intent (LOI) Proposal.
Instruction: Your Letter of Intent should contain a brief overview of the proposed project as outlined below:
- Similar to an abstract, include purpose, aims, methods, and outcome measures in one page (400 words maximum).
- Impact Statement (2 sentences) State how this project will impact the psychosocial care of pediatric oncology patients and families and/or pediatric oncology programs.
- Innovation Statement (2 sentences) State how this project is a novel approach to childhood cancer research.
- Dissemination Statement (2-3 sentences) State how this work can lead to the goal of uniformity of evidence-based care (based on these Standards) for children with cancer and their families, regardless of location or size of the institution where care is provided.
- Identify Mentorship Team/Plan – Identify mentor(s) and describe general plan for mentorship.
